Eighty PESA members and their guests attended the 44th annual Drillsearch – PESA (NSW) golf day and presentation dinner at the Avondale Golf Club on 16 November 2011.

The Avondale course was in great condition and the golfers were looked after really well by the club and its staff. Industry support of the golf day was outstanding and because of this support, golf day participants enjoyed an opportunity to mix with industry colleagues that was both pleasurable and very good value.

The PESA golf day in NSW involves the awarding of five trophies. The winner of the AE Prince trophy for the best 18 hole net score was Grant Macpherson (net 68) and the CGG Veritas Cup, for the lowest score off the stick, was won by Bruce Philips (81). The CoreLab trophy goes to the 18 hole runner up net score and the winner this time was David Calver (net 69) and the best net score by a visitor was recorded by Lachlan Harris (net 67), who was presented with The Oilmen of NSW Trophy. The female player with the best Stableford score was Lorna Clarke (40 points).

The encouragement award normally goes to the most challenged golfer on the day. This time it was a bit special, because in what can only be described as an extraordinary alignment of golfing misfortune and rotten bad luck, the AGL golfers recorded some really big scores. Congratulations to the AGL group who collectively won the Bradman prize.

In another first, the Committee presented a special prize for exceptional commitment to the PESA NSW golf day. This prize was awarded for a very long drive and the winners were five friends from Hawks Nest who drove 200 km to play in the event.

The prize-giving involved the drawing of two door prizes. Mike Roy won the Silvermere weekend away in the Blue Mountains and Brian Jones won the Hilton accommodation and dinner package.

In 2012 The Oilmen of NSW will hold two golfing events. A weekend away was held in the Hunter Valley between 9–11 March, playing the Vintage and the Hunter Valley golf clubs. Later in the year, the 45th annual PESA NSW Golf Day will be held at the Killara GC on 19 October 2012.
