PESA's South Australian branch awards a $1000 prize annually for the best petroleum geoscience paper by a student at a South Australian tertiary institution, accepted for publication in the preceding year.

This year's most deserving prize winner is Justin MacDonald, lead author of the paper titled Structural style of the White Pointer and Hammerhead Delta – Deepwater fold-thrust belts, Bight Basin, Australia, presented at the 2010 APPEA Conference. Justin is a PhD candidate at the Australian School of Petroleum and is also an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) recipient.

The branch also awards a $500 bursary to the highest placed recipient of the Brian Daly field mapping prize who proceeds to Petroleum Geology III at the University of Adelaide. Carl Altmann was awarded the 2010 Petroleum Geology III Bursary and Holly Feltus is the bursary winner for 2011.

The South Australian branch has received a number of applications for the 2011 PESA Graduate Prize and a winner has not yet been selected. This award is intended for full-time students in their Honours year or first year of a Masters Degree and applicants are assessed on their academic record, research topic and referees comments.

The SA branch would like to congratulate all of the State's prize and bursary winners and to also encourage students meeting the application criteria to apply for relevant awards in 2012. Contact Alan Collins (alan.collins@adelaide.edu.au) for further information on terms and conditions and the prizes available.
